It Pays to Save the Environment with Green Packaging

Environmentally Friendly Packaging

Fact: Research has shown that 30 percent of consumers will pay up to a 10 percent premium on environmentally friendly packaging, a trend that is set to grow, particularly in view of the effort in local schools to educate the next generation of buyers on the importance of green. And this translates to the importance of green packaging.

Fact: Seven percent of consumers won’t buy from a store that doesn’t offer green packaging.

So companies offering green packaging products are more likely than not to win the devotion of consumers. But lip service to the environment means more than putting a hamburger in a paper bag. A lot of chains use greenwashing techniques to make you think they’re being nice toward the concept of green, but really aren’t.

According to the website the Seven Sins of Greenwashing there are many ways in which the consumer is being hoodwinked; among these:

  • Claims that a product is green based on a narrow set of attributes. Paper is not necessarily environmentally preferable just because it comes from a sustainably harvested forest. “Other important environmental issues in the paper-making process, such as greenhouse gas emissions, or chlorine use in bleaching may be equally important,” the site points out.
  • Information that can’t be substantiated by easily accessible supporting information or by a reliable third-party certification, such as claims of various percentages of post-consumer recycled content without providing evidence.
  • Vagueness, such as a claim that’s so poorly defined or broad that its real meaning is likely to be misunderstood by the consumer. ‘All-natural,’ according to the site, is an example. “Arsenic, uranium, mercury, and formaldehyde are all naturally occurring, and poisonous. ‘All natural’ isn’t necessarily green.”
  • Environmental claims that are simply false.

Which brings us back to our point:

Fact: GreenDustries offers more environmentally responsible products by using less substrates and more renewable resources

Fact: GreenDustries
has been endorsed by the Dogwood Alliance, whose goal is to protect and restore the country’s endangered forests, end unsustainable forestry practices, and increase the industry’s use of post-consumer recycled and other environmentally preferable sources of fiber in the production of paper. An endorsement from Dogwood is the real deal.

Fact: GreenDustries is at the forefront of the fast food packaging industry with the smallest carbon footprint.

So when making a decision about the right product for fast food, make it based on fact – and not fiction.
